INTRODUCING STÉPHANE MERCIER
Nowadays
Stéphane Mercier is currently active in a wide range of musical settings, consistently maintaining his distinctive sound and artistic integrity across genres.
His current projects include a new trio in which he performs on alto saxophone, flute, percussion, and Ableton Live. In this context, he also introduces his C melody saxophone—a 1920 New Wonder paired with a François Louis mouthpiece. For this ensemble, he has composed an original suite entitled Structural Memory.
The American funk-rock band BZSounds, led by acclaimed bassist Ben Zwerin and featuring Mercier as a co-composer, is releasing a new album with guest appearances by Lionel Loueke, Grégoire Maret, Julien Loureau, Steven Bernstein, among others.
Contemporary classical composer Stéphane Orlando is releasing a new album on Home Records, featuring the Edinburgh String Quartet alongside Mercier’s Irish jazz trio.
Legendary producer Jean Kluger has invited Stéphane Mercier to form a new band, JASS, bringing together Mark Edwards (Incognito, Katie Melua) as arranger and Darren Beckett on drums, reinterpreting the music of Daft Punk.
In parallel, Mercier continues to lead the Jazz Station Big Band, currently working on a tribute to Dr. Maya Angelou. A collaboration with renowned vocalist David Linx is also underway, with a release scheduled on Igloo Records in 2027.
